Selling Gold VS Selling Jewellery

Hi everyone and welcome back to Lanes & Co Blog! If you don’t know me I am Casey and the owner & founder at Lanes & Co.

A huge part of our service and something we are super proud of is that we do our best to look at jewellery as pieces rather than just the gold weight.

Don’t get me wrong this can’t be the case with all items but anything we think holds a little bit more value or is heavily stone set we will definitely do our best to look beyond the gold when buying in from you. Why is that because we value stones, the history of pieces and quite frankly I have been heartbroken too many times hearing certain things have been scraped in that really shouldn’t have.

People always ask what we mean by gold vs jewellery. It is hard to say without seeing the piece. However, a 9ct yellow gold curb chain would be looked at as gold, and the price would be determined by the weight – fundamentally, that is all the value. However, if they had a diamond and opal ring, this is when we would consider the quality of the stones, the carat weight, and age of the piece to allow us to offer beyond that price per gram.

Here at Lanes & Co, we are very lucky to have built a group of buyers who appreciate older pieces of jewellery, which allows us to offer you that premium. We are always on the lookout to buy, so whether you have a stacked-up charm bracelet or an emerald and diamond ring you may have inherited, pop in for a coffee, sweet treat and a chat!

There is no obligation to sell; however, we can inform you of what we would be looking to offer and potentially provide you with some further knowledge on what you own. Plus, I love looking at bits and hearing the story behind them! Anything to get me away from my desk.
